1. Football Culture and Considerations of the Country
Turkish people recognised football in the early 19th century. In the early days, it was played by minority groups in Thessaloniki and Izmir. According to Muslim belief, playing football was forbidden.
After the founding of the Republic, Turkey began to value football. The Turkish Football Federation was established and became a member of FIFA. The first football championship was held in the country in 1924. UEFA was founded in 1954 and in 1962, Turkey became a member. The Turkish peoples’ love for football and loyalty to their favourite teams saw its popularity rise rapidly. In the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Turkey finished third. In the third-place play-off against South Korea, Hakan Şükür scored 10.8 seconds after the match started. This is the fastest goal in the history of the World Cup. Following the tournament, Rüştü Reçber, Alpay Özalan, and Hasan Şaş were selected for the tournament’s all-star team.
Watching football matches in Turkey is a lot of fun and it will be especially exciting when the UEFA Champions League final 2023 comes to town. However, as in every country, there are fanatics in Turkey. A detailed upper search is done at the entrance gates and there are intensive security measures around the stadium. As summer approaches, temperatures in Turkey ought to rise in June. Temperatures are around 28°C during the day and 17°C during the night. Very little precipitation falls during this month on average. However, before setting out on any outdoor adventures, it is wise to check the local forecast.
During the day, you can feel good in cool garments like t-shirts, shorts, and skirts. In case the evenings get chilly, you should pack a light jacket or cardigan. Wearing sunscreen and a hat can help you avoid sunburn when you’re out in the sun. Bring a light raincoat or umbrella to outdoor events and festivals just in case it starts to rain unexpectedly.

11. What to eat in Istanbul?
There are many options for eating in Istanbul. What do you want to eat?
Kebabs are one of the most popular flavours in Turkey. In our opinion, if you only have a little time, you should get a mixed kebab so you taste all of them. Restaurants have their own mixed kebab specialties. Generally, Urfa, Adana and shish kebab are included. There are also dishes that are not in mixed kebabs such as İskender Kebab, Eggplant Kebab, Tas Kebab, and Beyti.
You might prefer to try Ottoman dishes and eat like sultans. You can taste Hünkarbeğendi (Sultan’s delight), Acem pilaf, cherry leaf wrap, and many other wonderful flavours.
You can go to the grill restaurant and eat kebabs over the fire. If you want to have a lively and entertaining evening in Istanbul, you should definitely go to Çiçek Pasajı or Nevizade taverns. If you prefer a quieter environment you might prefer other taverns. If you want to be in a calmer environment, there are also quiet taverns. Places such as Karaköy Restaurant, Cumhuriyet Meyhanesi are just for you. You can go to these places after or before the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul.
