Dialogue in the Dark, an exhibition and workshop to explore the unknown, provides a unique opportunity to comprehend the daily lives of blind people. The idea behind Dialogue in the Dark is simple: guests are led in groups by blind guides through specially designed dark chambers where aroma, sound, wind, temperature, and texture express the qualities of everyday places such as a park, a city, a boat ride, or a bar. The everyday activities take on new meaning. People who can see are transported out of their accustomed environment, resulting in a role reversal. By conveying a world without visuals, blind individuals offer them with security and a feeling of orientation. The trip lasts around one hour, but the benefits might last a lifetime. The concept has proven to be quite beneficial. Dialogue in the Dark has been performed in more than 30 countries and 130 towns throughout the world since its premiere in 1988. Dialogue in the Dark has been visited by over seven million people globally, and it has provided employment for thousands of blind guides and trainees.
