You plan trips to popular cities around the world and you never follow the plan! This is also true for Istanbul. Istanbul is a fast-paced, dynamic city and sometimes it seems to make no sense to plan a trip here. And when trying to make ad hoc decisions about where to go and what to do, you’ll want to have reliable apps to guide you. So, we’ve put together a list of the apps that will help you the most while you’re visiting Istanbul.

1. Moovit

To truly see any city, it’s important to use its public transport. The pleasure of travelling by bus, subway or tram is unique in Istanbul. And Moovit is designed to help you know which one to use for any particular journey. Moovit gives you step-by-step directions from where you are to where you want to go.

It will tell you the time of arrival for your bus, tram or metro at the station, and notify you before you arrive at your stop. The Moovit public transport index is used to help public transport customers  in over 150 cities. Moovit will be your best digital assistant in Istanbul for metro, funicular, train, bus, tram and ferry. The Moovit link for iOS and Android is here.

2. Trafi

You can travel from one point to another with Trafi, another public transportation application. After entering the information about the place you want to go, just select the route you want to take. Trafi will also offer you the most suitable alternatives. With the offline app you can easily find your way even when you are not connected to the internet. With the “favourites” feature you can save the routes you use regularly. With instant traffic information you can avoid traffic congestion and find a suitable public transport alternative.
