1. Cemil İpekçi

Cemil İpekçi is a world-renowned fashion designer. He completed his education at the Royal Academy of Arts in England and in 1965, just at the age of 17, he took up designing. He founded his first fashion house at the age of 20 and, at 24, opened a branch in Nice, France. Cemil İpekçi combines traditional Turkish motifs with designs inspired by the Ottoman designers and his designs display some of the most beautiful details of Turkish history.

4. Atıl Kutoğlu

Born in 1968, Atıl Kutoğlu entered the world of fashion at a young age with an internship at Vakko and Beymen. After completing his studies in Business Administration at the Vienna University of Economics, he began his career in fashion design in Vienna.

He attended fashion weeks in Vienna, Munich, Düsseldorf, Milan and New York with his collections bearing traces of Turkish and Ottoman art. Famous figures such as Alek Wek, Elizabeth Jagger, Jermaine Jackson and Alexandra Richards have appeared on the catwalk at Atıl Kutoğlu’s fashion shows.

He opened his first store in Nişantaşı in 2009 and, in 2013 he was awarded Austria’s Order of Honor. Among his famous customers are Austrian princesses Camilla von Habsburg and Francesca von Habsburg, Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Elizabeth Jagger.

5. Nedret Taciroğlu

Nedret was a fashion-loving young girl when she graduated from Mimar Sinan University’s Department of Interior Architecture. Long before her graduation, at the age of 17, she participated in the International Young Girls Competition in Tokyo and was chosen as “Miss Photogenic”. This was her introduction into the rich and vibrant world of fashion designers.

Nedret’s fashion reflected the disciplines she learned in interior design education such as light, cold and continuity of design. After she founded Nedo, her designs suddenly became famous. In 2002 her Nedret Taciroğlu Couture range was devoted solely to evening wear.

6. Raşit Bağzıbağlı

Born in 1985, Rasit Bagzibagli knew at the age of 12 that he wanted to be a designer. After learning this craft, he released his first collection at the age 22. He was named Best Young Designer in Türkiye in 2010, after which he moved to New York where he received the accolade of Best Promising Young Designer in the Face of Fashion competition.
This established him in the fashion map and in 2013 Bagzibagli was commissioned to design the police uniforms for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and created corporate identity logos and emblems.
In 2014 he received the Fashion Designer of the Year award at the FTV awards. He has exhibited collections at Istanbul Fashion Week since 2015.

7. Bünyamin Aydın (Les Benjamins)

8. Rufat İsmayil (Afffair)

Rufat Ismayil was born in Baku in 1981 and studied diplomacy at the insistence of his family. After school, he worked as a model at the fashion shows of famous designers and eventually became a fashion designer himself.

While Rufat traveled the world as a model, there were times when it was difficult to find clothes suitable for his body. So he started to design clothes for himself. When the clothes he designed were made by tailors people began to notice them and Rufat became a designer. Rufat worked individually at every stage of design and production to learn all the details of the profession so he knew all the problems that may arise in production and was able to find a solution.

9. Cengiz Abazoğlu

Cengiz Abazoğlu was born in 1969 into a family working in textile sector. He discovered fashion at a very young age and set his heart on becoming a fashion designer. Abazoğlu continued his education until high school, then learned design at a leather company in Brussels.

He presented all of the haute couture clothes he designed in his studio in 1991 at his first fashion show at the Istanbul Mink Show. From 1991 to 2004, he prepared an haute couture collection every year and used the money he made from exhibiting at the shows to support charities.
Cengiz presented his first ready-to-wear collection in 2006. Since 2009, he has been highly acclaimed for his collections at the Paris Haute Couture week.

10. Özgür Masur

Özgür Masur was born in Istanbul in 1979 and studied at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Textile Arts. In 2001, he received the Design Star of the Future award at Lesshow in Moscow and in 2002 came third in the Young Designers competition organized by İTKİB in 2002.

Özgür’s life changed with the micro collection he exhibited at Galata Fashion Week, which he attended for the first time in 2008. Everyone who saw his collection was amazed and Ozgur’s designs attracted the attention of fashion lovers everywhere.

Immediately afterwards, he created his home-warm workshop in Nisantasi, where he does almost everything with his own hands.

11. Ezra ve Tuba Çetin (ezra+tuba)

Ezra and Tuba Çetin grew up among fabric and design sketches as two daughters of textile-dealing parents. At the age of 5, they designed their first dress and their mother tailored it for them. This was a fascinating moment for girls and they felt the magic of design and production at that very moment.

Ezra studied graphic design and painting. Tuba completed her visual design and textile design education. They also provided design and consultancy services to brands at home and abroad.

In 2006, they established the ezra + tuba brand. Their designs appeal to powerful, feminine and modern women. Ezra + Tuba established the luxury women’s clothing couture and ready-made clothing brand “etcetura” bridge in their workshops in Nişantaşı.

Since 2009, they have been invited by the Federation Francaise de la Couture du Pret-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode, and they introduced their ready-to-wear collections as part of “Mode à Paris” and Milan Fashion Week between 2009 and 2012.

After graduating from Istanbul Bilgi University Cinema-TV department, Duygu Boz, who studied fashion design and management for three years in Istanbul Fashion Academy, became a founding partner, creative director and mother of the opinion of KNITSS.

13. Mehtap Elaidi

Mehtap Elaidi, who was born in Istanbul in 1964, decided to follow her childhood dream of being a designer in 2000. Thus, she opened the first Elaidi store in the workshop/store concept in Teşvikiye. And it all began with a white shirt. The white shirt was strong and timeless, and she created shirts that can be worn both day and night. Instead of following new trends, she preferred to adapt and innovate.

Mehtap Elaidi thought about the type of women who would prefer her designs. She questioned what they eat, what they drink, where they go during the day. She considered all these ideas as an image of a living woman and identified her clothes with this woman.

14. Meltem Özbek

Meltem Ozbek, who was born in Izmir in 1983, learned to put her dreams on the line when she started to receive education from the Istanbul Fashion Academy in 2009. In 2010, she won first place in the leather category at the Koza Young Fashion Designers Competition. At the Pure London Fair in London in 2012, her leather pieces attracted the attention of fashion lovers.

15. Elvan Tığlıoğlu (Jaquette)

Growing up in a family that organizes advertisements and promotes fashion shows, Elvan Tığlıoğlu began her career in the advertising agency. She worked as a shop window designer in the Altinyildiz Group for 1 year, and as a fashion consultant in V2K for 1 year.

Through her family business she partnered with French firm La Mode en Images. During her studies with the company, she gained an important insight into fashion, design, and discipline through fashion shows. She organized the world launch of Cartier and Chanel in Istanbul.

Being on the factory floor of world-famous brands made Elvan open her dream doors to the fullest. She established the brand “stilator” with Sibel Arna and for 5 years, she styled brands, celebrities, series and movies, and other TV shows. Jaquette was founded in 2014 and offers jackets, coats and kimonos.

Elvan Tığlıoğlu says that people have ways of expressing themselves. She likens her own creative process to “giving birth”. Elvan states that all her collections are an expression.

No matter how far people run, their dreams always chase them. Zeynep’s life was like this for years until, finally, she left the telecommunications company where she worked as a manager and turned to design, which had been her childhood dream. The motivation to establish the Zeynep Arcay brand was a combination of her passion for design and her desire to leave a legacy.

17. Arzu Kaprol

The famous designer graduated from Mimar Sinan University’s Fashion Apparel department. She completed the Perfectionnement programme at the Paris American Academy. In 1995, Beymen Academia received the “Avant-Garde Designer” award.

She founded her own brand in 1998. She received Fashion Designer of the Year awards from Fashion TV in 2007 and Elle Style Awards in 2011. In the same year, she first took part in Paris Fashion Week and opened her office in Paris. With collaborations she has made since 2016, she has begun studies on the merger of her products with technology.

Türkiye’s first digital couture show, held in June 2016, featured the smart jacket, one of the first prototypes of smart clothing which changes function according to the temperature and was created by Arzu Kaprol.

Arzu Kaprol, who evaluates design as clothing architecture, is not a traditional designer. She thinks that man has passed through time and believes the future is identified with the uncreated. For this reason, she prepares all her collections independently of time.

Arzu Kaprol states that concerns about the future lead people to the past. That’s why she thinks vintage clothes have reappeared. Therefore, she believes that in order to have hope for the future, we must wear a piece of our past.

18. Dilek Hanif

Dilek Hanif was born in 1962 into a fashion and textile lover family. She founded her first brand at the age of 28.

The most important feature of Dilek Hanif’s designs was to carry Anatolian culture to the fashion world. Dilek Hanif, one of the pioneers of

Turkish fashion history, adhered to the Ottoman culture and synthesized the past and future through her unique style. Thus, with the contemporary and feminine line she created, she gained the admiration of all fashion lovers.

Yıldırım Mayruk, born in 1940, is one of the first names that comes to mind when you think of Turkish fashion. He lost his father at a very young age and began to work in his sister’s tailor workshop.

Later, continuing his fashion life, Mayruk participated in a fashion show with 10 pieces he made in the workshop he established in Istanbul. He met Mualla Özbek at the end of this fashion show.

Displaying his collections in international cities such as London, Abu Dhabi, Tel-Aviv, Alhain and Haifa, and in Turkish cities including Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Antalya, Diyarbakır, Mayruk donated his income to charities, especially those supporting education. His workshop in Beyoğlu.

20. Gamze Saraçoğlu

Born in 1980, Gamze Saraçoğlu studied fashion design at “Parson’s School of Design” in New York, graduating in 2003. In 2003, she had the opportunity to work with Donna Karan in New York. Having established her own brand in 2005, Saraçoğlu designed collections for brands such as Zara, Marks & Spencer, Kookai, Nafnaf, Etam, Promod and Chevignon.

In 2006, she was commissioned to design a special laptop bag for Apple. The Apple collection went on sale in Apple stores. Since 2008, she has been collecting designs of the Cotton Bar brand of Beymen. She has been exhibiting her products at Istanbul Fashion Week since 2009.

Saraçoğlu provided creative director and consultancy services to brands such as Mudo, Boyner, İnci Deri and Saydam Tekstil. She designed uniforms for Turkcell, Aras Kargo and Petrol Ofisi.

The collections of Saraçoğlu, who is a board member of the Fashion Design Association, are exhibited every year at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Istanbul.

Gamze Saraçoğlu also provides personalized designs, creative consultancy and collection preparation services, styling consultancy, brand analysis consultancy, collection design consultancy, fabric and accessory consultancy for the collection to be designed, season and style and color estimation services. 22. Ayşe Birsel

Ayşe Birsel is well-known in the industrial design industry, since she graduated from the Middle East Technical University with a first in Industrial Design department.

From there she continued her education by taking part in the Fullbright course in America. For her Master’s thesis she presented her “Water Room” project and became recognised in the USA and Japan. She has been named one of America’s “1000 Most Creative People” and received the Roscoe Award (the Oscar of the design industry) and designed the interiors of Renault cars up until 2007.

She has featured on the cover of some of the industry’s most important magazines and her works have been displayed in the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, one of the most exclusive venues in the sector.

Birsel’s collection consists of Paşabahçe Omnia branded glass and crystal pieces which she uses to show the most beautiful places of Istanbul.

23. Defne Koz

Defne Koz, who has special designs in many areas from furniture to lighting, lives in Milan, the heart of furniture design. She runs her own studio and travels between Italy and the USA serving multinational companies such as Pirelli, Guzzini, Steel, RSVP, Gabbianelli-Merati, German WMF, Sharp, Nissan, Japan Casio.

Defne Koz designs custom made pieces for many companies operating in Türkiye and has her signature on products ranging from electronics to car tyres. Defne Koz regularly displays collections of her work in the Istanbul Biennial.

24. Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye

Meet the world-famous ceramic artist Alev Ebuzziya. The sculptor and ceramic and glass designer has been living in Paris since 1987 but her high-fired non-porous ceramics are exhibited in major international museums worldwide including London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, the Zurich Musée Bellerive, the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York, Belfast’s Ulster Museum, the State Museum of Painting and Sculpture (Ankara) and the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum (Istanbul). 25. Atilla Kuzu

Atilla Kuzu worked in various architecture offices until 1994. Since then, he has been working at Zoom Architecture which he founded with his partner, architect Levent Çırpıcı.

The company specialises in shops, congress and exhibition palaces, and hotels. In addition, he designs interior materials including the seating unit of the Conde House in Japan. The interior designs of many modern buildings in Istanbul were designed by Atilla Kuzu.

26. Sezgin Aksu

In recent years Sezgin Aksu has been one of the most frequently heard Turkish names in the world of design and her designs are inspired by Istanbul. After studying in various schools for 8 years, he began work in Milan and now heads up the design department at De Lucchi, one of the most famous interior design studios in the city.

His client portfolio includes such names as Olivetti, Siemens, Compaq, Enel, Poltrana Frau, Mandarina Duck and Fiat.

27. Murat Günak

Murat Günak was born in Istanbul and promotes the city through his automobile designs. He comes to Istanbul frequently and often gives lectures at conferences.

Murat Günak completed his education abroad and met with Renault’s design chief while working as a designer for Ford. He entered the Royal College of Art and after successfully completing his degree, he joined Mercedes Benz.

Günak designed the current C series and also provided inspiration for the A-class and SLK.
