Istanbul comes to life every season of the year! And there is no better time to visit than during the annual Sónar Festival. As a young adult and music aficionado, I’ve attended a number of festivals and performances around the world, but Sónar Istanbul is absolutely unique.
The atmosphere of the city absorbed me from the time I arrived. The streets were alive with excitement as music fans from around the world descended on Istanbul for days of nonstop partying and music. The festival is held at the Zorlu Performing Arts Center in the city, a beautiful theater with incredible acoustics and cutting-edge lighting and sound.

Sonar Istanbul 2023 Calendar
Sónar Istanbul, which brings together music, creativity, and technology while hosting thousands of music fans, has revealed its first wave of performers for the 7th edition in 2023!
On April 28th and 29th, with the support of %100 Music, a two-day festival will welcome exceptional performers from all genres of electronic music to play once more. The first phase of Sónar Istanbul’s lineup has been announced.
The hotly anticipated festival will present performances from across the spectrum of electronic music led by prominent names, spectacular AV shows, and delve into a Sónar+D program that explores the deep links between music, creativity, and technology at Zorlu PSM, thanks to the contribution of%100 Music.
Sónar Istanbul 2023 welcomes Richie Hawtin, the king of avant-garde electronica, globally renowned techno DJ ANNA, establishing herself as one of the most uncompromising and visible new talents in techno, VTSS (Ninja Tune), merging electronic music and visual art with a scientific inquiry through installations, live performances, and immersive audio-visual experiences that point to humanity’s place in the world, Max Cooper (3D AV), illuminating the natural flu Blawan, one of the most exciting UK producers, TSHA, with groove-laden basslines and bright, melodic hooks, and Sofia Kourtesis, a Peruvian-born, Berlin-based producer.
Experiences Awaiting You at Sonar Istanbul 2023
Sónar Istanbul’s eclectic program, which includes both foreign and local bands, is one of its highlights. The range of music available, from techno and hip-hop to rock and world music, astounded me. The festival also includes cutting-edge technology, with displays and workshops exhibiting the latest music, art, and film advancements.
One of the festival’s most memorable experiences was witnessing world-renowned DJ and producer Richie Hawtin play live on stage. The crowd’s excitement was palpable, and Hawtin’s set was amazing. I also had the pleasure to witness highly anticipated performances, which had the crowd hopping from start to finish.

What to Discover in Istanbul
In between performances, I explored the city and immersed myself in its rich history and culture. From its majestic mosques and palaces to its colorful street markets and shopping places, Istanbul definitely has something for everyone. I especially enjoyed visiting the Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, Hagia Sophia and Basilica Cistern, and I purchased some interesting trinkets and sampled some of the great street food.
Sónar Istanbul, in conclusion, is a must-see for every music lover seeking an outstanding music festival experience. It’s no surprise that it’s one of the world’s most talked-about festivals, with its diversified roster, cutting-edge technologies, and breathtaking location. I can’t wait to go back and do it all again!
