The 10 Best Restaurants with a View in Istanbul

“It’s hard living in Istanbul. There is lots of traffic, you find yourself always running around and it is very crowded.” These are words often heard from those that live there. Everyone living in Istanbul has prepared an escape plan to get away from the crowds. But Istanbulites love their city, and though they complain, their escape plans never take them far from home. Every day, at lunch or dinner, they sit for a while and take in the magnificent view of Istanbul while they eat and drink. And at the weekends they shake off the tiredness of the working week and search for fun all day or through the night. Wherever they go, they know that there is the Kızkulesi, Sultanahmet, Galata Tower, Istanbul Strait, magnificent bridges and endless sea in the background.

Well, having read this article, you can call yourself an Istanbulite. We are here with the most “organized” of Tripster articles to give you all the details you need to live like a local. We have a list of the best restaurants in Istanbul with a view. We have prepared 2 scenarios you may face on your visit to Istanbul, and our best solutions for them.

Scenario 1: You’ve been to Istanbul before but this time you’re traveling with someone who is visiting the city for the first time. Your companion doesn’t know the city and is a little nervous. And you’ve already been faced with heavy traffic which has stressed you out a bit. Take a deep breath and relax. You know where to go. Somewhere with delicious food and stunning views. Somewhere that you will feel close to the sea; to be able to smell it and listen to the songs of the seagulls. Somewhere that you can offer a morsel of your delicious meal to a passing cat, or maybe feed a little sparrow that comes to your table. Here is our guide to the best Istanbul restaurants with a view and good food.

Plan: Istanbul has many beautiful places to help relieve your stress. These are not restaurants that overlook the landscape. They are quiet and peaceful places by the sea. We will share 5 eateries that are ideal to unwind over breakfast, brunch or lunch. Some also serve evening meals.

1. Goze, Sariyer

This patisserie is magnificent and its sea-facing terrace is fascinating. You get a feeling that the seagulls and boats are coming towards you. You are now far from the crowd, the sound, and the chaos of the city. You feel as if you are moving with the sea on the sea. Everything you’re served  is fresh and using natural ingredients. Fragrant bread, donuts and bagels are combined with weekday portions, and there’s an open buffet breakfast on weekends. All you have to do is enjoy this peace and quiet.

Getting there

Goze has two separate locations in Sarıyer. One is a patisserie and the other is a terrace. We recommend Goze Terrace. If you are going from Taksim, head to Hacıosman using the metro, M2 line. Exit the elevator exit in Hacıosman and find the stop for buses going towards Hacıosman / Levent. Take one of the 41SF – Sarıyer or 41C – Sarıyer buses from here. After 12 stops you will reach the Sarıyer Center. Get off here and head towards Meserburnu Street. After a 2-minute walk, you will reach Göze Sarıyer Terrace.

What to eat?

Mixed breakfast is served on weekdays. We recommend you choose a weekday as it gets very crowded on weekends. The open buffet breakfast starts at 09.00. You can drink unlimited tea with plenty of greens, cheese and olive varieties, delicatessen products, homemade jams, spring rolls, egg bread, french fries and much more. In addition, you can try various meat and vegetable products. There is a very rich breakfast menu. Breakfast is an open buffet until 14.00 on the weekend. The first tea is free. Mixed breakfast is served until 14.00 on weekdays. If you don’t want to have breakfast, we recommend you try the tea and pancakes. Alcohol is not sold in the venue. If you want to see photos, take a look at the website.

How much does it cost?

For breakfast, you pay between 50 and 75 TL per person (Prices may change over time).

Additional information

The bagels, pastries and other pastry products of Goze’s patisserie are known throughout the city. The same products are available on the terrace. Goze has a third branch, in Atasehir. We didn’t mention this one, so as not to confuse branches. Sarıyer is your destination.

PLANNING A TRIP TO ISTANBUL?

As Tripster, we understand your expectations from your trip and offer you the most suitable ones for your wishes from the plans prepared by locals living in the destination you want to visit.

2. Chilai, Bebek

In Chilai, which is one of the most beautiful places in Bebek, you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner, drink something and enjoy the view of the seafront. Breakfast is served in the morning but this place is at its best in the afternoon. So, there’s no need to rush to reach Bebek. Stop by Chilai for good music and snacks later in the day, rather than for breakfast. If you want, you could spend a whole day here. The place is designed not just for a pleasant time in the middle of the day but also to have fun later in the night.

Getting there

Take the Bahcekoy (42T) or Istinye Dereici (40T) buses from Taksim. Buses stop near the Park Hotel. From the square, walk to Inonu Street. After 5-minutes you’ll reach the bus stops. After getting on the bus, you will have a very nice journey for about half an hour. During the journey, you can see the Bosphorus view from the right side of the bus. If it’s sunny, you can get off at an earlier stop and walk by the sea.

What to eat?

You can eat seafood, Mediterranean dishes and other types of grilled meat. There are also vegetarian-friendly dishes. The rich breakfast, if it were an open buffet, would not be suitable for the concept of the place, in our opinion. The real party starts at noon and goes on into the evening. You can try different flavours from the A La Carte dishes, Sushi bar and fixed menu. If you want the fixed menu, you will need to be in a group of at least 15 people. Food and alcohol service is limited to 3 hours. The menu includes pork, if you are not allowed to eat pork for religious reasons, be sure to mention this at the time of booking.

How much does it cost?

This varies depending on what you eat and drink. If you want to eat a lamb cage, you can pay close to 500 TL per serving. Likewise, there are options for imported wines with a price of 14000 TL. However, when you come here, if you want an average meal without looking at very expensive products, the cost will be between 150 TL – 200 TL per person. However, these prices may vary. You can get information about prices when making a reservation.

Additional information

Chilai’s music differs on every floor. You can listen to chill out, ambient, bossa nova and downtempo music in the entrance, garden, and sushi floors. There is a DJ six days a week, from 17:00 until closing. Food service ends at 23:00 but the bar is kept open. Then deep house and soulful house music begin. If you are on the top floor or the terrace, you can listen to jazz and smooth jazz. Chilai is here to give you an unforgettable time. There is no specific dress code, just be smart and stylish. Casual clothing can cause problems at the entrance. If you want a private booth or a lodge, you can make a reservation for up to 6 people. Prices vary between 1000 and 3000 TL depending on the selected drinks. Click for detailed information.

3. Menekse Garden, Rumelifeneri

Rumelifeneri is a lighthouse at the northern end of the European side of Istanbul, where the Bosphorus meets the Black Sea. It is 2 nautical miles away from the Anatolian Lighthouse on the opposite shore. The line connecting these two lights forms the northern border of Istanbul Port. The village where the lighthouse is located shares the same name (Rumelifeneri). This is one of the most peaceful places in Istanbul. Violet Garden has almost 100 years of history and for the last decade has served as a restaurant. Mainly Black Sea Region dishes are prepared here. The view is magnificent. The Black Sea on the one side, and the last part of the Bosphorus on the other… You will hear the songs of seagulls flying freely. You will love the sincerity of the environment and the fact that the employees treat you as if you are part of the family. The employees are old and sincere people, one may feel as if he has gone to the home of his grandmother in the village.

Getting there

Take the number 40 bus Garipce / Rumeli Feneri which goes from Taksim towards Beşiktaş. Try to sit on the right side of this bus so you can gaze at the Bosphorus view throughout the journey. The journey takes about an hour and a half and can be a little longer if traffic is particularly heavy But believe me, on such a pleasant journey, you won’t even notice the time passing.

What to eat?

Menekse Garden serves breakfast and brunch. In the morning, you can have a village breakfast which is brought to the table in portions. We especially recommend “mihlama”. If you arrive later, you can eat fish products. Shrimp stew and anchovy pan are our favorites. It is an open buffet on the weekend. Alcohol isn’t served but there is plenty of tea.

How much does it cost?

Menekşe Bahçe usually serves breakfast and grilled fish. There is a price difference between the open buffet breakfast and the spreading breakfast. Expect to pay an average of 70 – 80 TL per person. Click here for the current prices. https://www.meneksebahcesi.com/

Additional information

As we wrote earlier, Istanbulites love to get over the week’s fatigue and stress with weekend breakfasts in peaceful places such as this. Therefore, if you want a quieter breakfast, you may prefer to go in the morning on weekdays. Don’t forget to make a reservation before you go.

4. IBB Seaside Social Facility, Beykoz

Social facility venues are operated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. There are some nostalgic and interesting ones not only for their views, but their interior design too. The employees of the venues are very warm and friendly. The social facility on the Beykoz side is on the seafront and offers you some time alone with the sound of the waves.

Getting there

The shortest way to get to Beykoz would be to cross the sea. After passing to Uskudar, you can reach Beykoz using a bus which goes from the beach. If you are in Besiktas, take a boat to Uskudar. After arriving at Uskudar, go to Peron 2 in front of Uskudar Mosque. This is a 4-minute walk. Then get the 15 (Beykoz), 15P (Soguksu Mah.) or 15T (Tokatlikoy) buses. After a journey of approximately 50 minutes and 29 stops, get off at the İbb Social Facilities stop. Walk towards the beach, you will reach the IBB Social Facility in a 7-minute walk. You’ll see this place is one of the best restaurants in Istanbul with a view.

What to eat?

The restaurant is on the second floor of the social facility. In addition to its extraordinarily beautiful scenery, the menu puts a modern twist on traditional flavours of Turkish cuisine. If you arrive after noon, we recommend Beykoz kebab. If you are there earlier, we recommend a breakfast plate or mixed breakfast.

How much does it cost?

Prices in the municipality’s facilities are always more affordable, so the bill should not give you a shock. Alcohol is not served in the facilities. You can enjoy a starter plate, main course, soft drink and dessert for two people at the facilities for an average of 90 TL per person.

Additional information

Social facilities of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality are located in 19 different places across the city. Their prices are much more affordable than regular restaurant prices, and generally, they all have stunning views.

5. Barba Yani, Heybeliada

Over the weekend, everywhere in Istanbul is usually crowded. Adalar calls travellers who enjoy Istanbul on weekdays. The islands of Istanbul are a very important escape point from the middle of the city. Barba Yani is one of Heybeliada’s calm and peaceful places. It is one of the most authentic representatives of the Greek tavern tradition which arrived in Istanbul in 1940. Appetizers and fish are always fresh. In the first and oldest tavern of Heybeliada, you will find a friendly atmosphere accompanied by Armenian and Greek appetizers. The sea is almost under your feet. The view is magnificent.

Getting there

The easiest way to go is with the city lines’ ferry. The city lines’ ferry stops at Kabataş, Eminönü, Kadıköy, Kınalıada, Burgazada, Heybeliada, Büyükada and goes to Bostancı. On some days and at varying times, the ferry departs from Beşiktaş. Click to see all the hours and details.

What to eat?

Barba Yani continues the tradition of Greek taverns which has developed throughout the years. Here you can find Armenian and Greek appetizers. Alcohol is served here and the rakı appetizers are mainly fish. If you go in cold weather, you can eat from Kars’ famous goose. For fish, we recommend sea bass with Mediterranean delight and basil sauce. And you should definitely ask for the mastic liquor made by Barba Yani.

How much does it cost?

Assuming you go to Barba Yani in the afternoon, we think you will stay until the first light of the day. For this reason, the number of portions and drinks you consume will increase and your bill will go up accordingly. However, on average, we can say that two people spend between 250 and 350 TL. A glass of raki is included. If you want to update the menu and prices before you go, just call Barba Yani.

Additional information

Have cash with you. It is useful to make a reservation in advance. There are places called “Barba Yani” in various parts of Istanbul, none of which is a branch of Barba Yani. Barba Yani is a Greek tavern located on the islands, only in Heybeliada and Burgazada. There is live music, usually fasil or Greek tavern music. If you can’t contain yourself when the music starts, don’t worry – you will see a lot of people starting to dance like you. Here, the fun begins all of a sudden. All of them are delicious and beautifully presented..

7. Kalpazankaya, Burgazada

You are overwhelmed by the crowd of the city and want to go to one of the Princes Islands for some silence and peace. But where can you have dinner, there?. All of the islands have nice restaurants. One of the restaurants where you can get a view from on high, see the small boats lost among the sparkles over the sea and feel yourself in a paradise is Kalpazankaya. In the past, counterfeiters printed money here, and when you walk from the restaurant to the sea, it is possible to see the rock and the cave where the money was printed.

Getting there

Get off at Burgazada Pier with the city lines ferry. From here, you can walk to Kalpazankaya. The road is a little long. If you don’t want to walk, you can use electric vehicles that go up. There used to be phaetons. However, these phaetons were hurting horses too much, so they were banned. If you encounter a carriage, this is a runaway carriage, for your information. You may use the electric phaetons instead if you find one.

What to eat?

The appetisers at Kalpazankaya are very good. If you are going to drink raki, we recommend wrapping salmon with asparagus. We recommend tandir kebab and Ayvalik Turkish Delight as well. You should try the stuffed squid and flounder with orange sauce from the fish menu. You can search and ask what dishes are on the menu before you go there.

How much does it cost?

Prices in Kalpazankaya are slightly above average. You can ask about the current menu by calling Kalpazankaya. It will cost an average of 450 TL  for two people for a meal with an alcoholic drink. Is it worth the view, the friendliness of the employees and the taste of the food? That’s for you to decide, but if you ask us, it was definitely worth it.

Additional information

Don’t expect a luxurious restaurant. Sometimes, even service disruptions may occur. This place is a country restaurant on the island. Instead of going to Kalpazankaya by ferry, you can also go by sea taxi. For this, you can call the restaurant and ask for sea taxi times and get detailed information.

In front of you, Maiden Tower is watching you with all its sadness and loneliness. We would like to add Maiden Tower to this article, but you cannot see the beauty of Maiden Tower while sitting in it! One of the most beautiful restaurants here is  Filizler Köfte. When you go there, you will understand what we mean.

Additional information

Filizler Köfte is not a place people can call “so-so”. Either they like it very much or not at all. Is it possible not to admire this magnificent view? Sometimes waiters can be captivated by the scenery and forget the service! If you come here for the view, everything will be fascinating for you. If you come for dinner, don’t turn your back on the view. Balkan meatballs are very tasty but the view of Maiden Tower is fascinating. Click for detailed information.

10. Leb-i Derya

For more than 15 years, this tavern has been watching Taksim silently. From here, you can see the fascinating view of Istanbul. The restaurant consists of 3 floors. The top is the terrace. They call it “Captain’s Lodge”. They define the captain’s lodge as “inconsistent, refined, small but very personal”. One floor down is the main hall. The view of Istanbul from here gives you feelings of limitlessness and eternity. There is a tavern downstairs. A nostalgic and friendly place, one of the Istanbul restaurants with a view.

Getting there

If the weather is nice, you can walk from Taksim Square on Istiklal Street. If you feel tired or don’t want to walk, take the M2 subway from Taksim, get off at Şişhane and walk down the street from Istiklal Avenue and down the Kumbaracı Slope. You can reach Kumbaracı Slope by using the nostalgic tram from Taksim to Tunnel. After Taksim Square, you can reach Leb-i Derya in a total of 6 minutes and 4 stops. Among the Istanbul restaurants in Taksim, there may not be another one with such a beautiful view.

What to eat?

Leb-i Derya has a culinary culture that is fond of gastronomy. Three floors of the three-storey place host world cuisines, but they have one thing in common; delicious food. As an appetiser, you should try goat cheese fried in puff pastry with pomegranate syrup. Tarama and spicy mackerel Marin, shrimp with aubergine puree, ribs, tandoori, topik (a dish made of chickpeas onion currants, cumin, and tahini) are specialties of Leb-i Derya. Order steak for your main course. You will not regret it.
